Papers of Edith Holliday, who served with the American Red Cross in France during World War I, between April 1918 and April 1919, contain letters written while in France to her husband Guy H. Holliday and her children; a few misc. letters to her; a journal kept between 25 April 1918 and 11 March 1919; notes for a talk and possible memoirs; and newspaper clippings. Holliday's letters and journal describe her trip from New York to London to Paris, her surroundings, including the presence of the military; and her war work at a rest station in Nevers and a hospital in Perigueux. Collection contains 2 letters from Theodore Roosevelt, one an unsigned copy.

On December 2, 1905, Mrs. Tunis G. Bergen brought together a group of Brooklyn residents at the Barnard Club House on Remsen Street to form New York City's first borough-based Red Cross organization.
